Overview
The main function of the role is to support the online brand manager in executing our online marketing strategy through leading the online content creation for product description pages, online banners for third party retailer activations/programmatic advertising as well as co-designing L'Oréal's online brand stores. This will involve working closely with creative agencies and L'Oréal's internal e-merch team. You will also be given bigger projects alongside this.
Skills
Yes. I have learned a vast amount of new skills which has drastically improved my business acumen. Specific areas include time management, strategy design and execution, budget maximization, sustainable practice, photoshop skills, negotiation, effective briefing and brand repositioning.
Responsibilities
I was given a considerable amount of responsibility during my placement. For the first 4-6 months the focus is on nailing the basics of your role alongside executing the new product launch period for the company which is a busy time of the year. For the final 6 months it is down to you to get involved into some bigger projects. For example I got the opportunity to create and lead the online marketing strategy for one of our brands for 2023 on 3 of our accounts which is normally an online brand manager project.
Support & Guidance
I got a lot of support throughout my internship, especially from my line manager who was my direct point of contact. I was also given a mentor as well due to the fact that my line manager was also fairly new to the business which shows how much the company value the level of guidance they want every intern to have.
Culture
The division I worked in was very fast-paced which took time to adjust to but the projects and campaigns were very rewarding as they were so wide scale. There was also a big social side to the division and we had lots of events throughout the year. Having said this the company culture does vary quite considerably across divisions and I know that in some of the divisions there are a lot less social events and at a smaller scale due to a lack of budget.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and believe it has genuinely improved my employability for future career prospects. The company has a great atmosphere and I'm planning on applying for the grad scheme as well.
Yes
The first thing that I would say is that you do not have to have a passion for the beauty industry to be successful in the application process. I by no means was a beauty enthusiast but did value the company's principle's and ethics which does definitely help when relating your own experiences to the interview questions. In the interview questions I think it's also good to use unique work/life experiences as this will also provide you with unique competencies which will set you apart. For example I spoke a lot about running my own Depop store as well as the some of the personal qualities I learned after recovering from a serious sport injury. For the case study in the assessment centre try showcase out of the box thinking and a 360 understanding of marketing. For the presentation itself keep the slides simple and effective with minimal text and a clear takeaway form each slide.
