Overview
I worked on a drug project for the year helping to develop and validate analytical methods. Then for ten weeks I did a dedicated research project for university which again was in method development. I have also undergone work outside of chemistry such as being a wellbeing representative for my team and helping at interview days. Overall I spend about 3-4 days a week in the lab and the rest at my desk.
Skills
I've learned a lot of new technical skills in analytical chemistry. I have also developed softer skills such as public speaking and scientific writing.
Responsibilities
I was given lots of responsibility on projects that directly impacted the business which was really amazing to be given, I was treated as a full time employer throughout rather than as a student.
Support & Guidance
I received lots of support both within and outside of my team which helped me develop both my technical and soft skills.
Culture
Everyone was very kind and welcoming, it feels a bit like a university campus as there is so much going on at the site (plus it's a very large site). My office has a nice atmosphere where I feel comfortable to talk and look forward to going into work each day

I absolutely loved my placement, it was my favourite year of my degree and I would highly recommend it to anyone
