Overview
Firstly there is some basic training that you need to complete to understand the software and the work that will take place. This is then carried over into work where you work with teams ranging in size from 3 upto 20, to review the financial statements of a company to make sure that they have no significant errors. Within this you communicate with the client, perform testing of documents and record your findings.
Skills
All the documentation takes place in Excel so you quickly develop your skills (only basic knowledge is required at the start).
Responsibilities
I held many client meetings, to start with the support of a senior member but also spoke with my client 1 to 1. As well as frequent email communication after only having worked for a 1 month with a client who had been doing there job for several years. These are large companies with large resources and you are given access to a lot of confidential information.
Support & Guidance
There is a good system in place where you have a buddy and career coach, they help you from things such as where to get tea and coffee from to your career progression and how to get onto the clients that you want to focus on.
Culture
PwC is a large firm that really emphasis the team values and wants to encourage socialising and networking at many different events. From getting to know your peer group, to the team who are working on the same company as you, as well as social groups which spread from partners to interns. They also have budgets to provide treats and activities to reward the hard work which is required.
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed my placement overall, from January to March I had to work long hours and then have also had a few months where I have been revising alongside work for my ICAEW exams. However my peers and colleagues that I have worked with make this a lot more manageable, as well as the work being quite varied.
Yes
Make sure to be aware of the core values and have strong applicable skills so that you can get involved in many different tasks, as each day is very different.
