The Role
I have really enjoyed my placement, and it has given me a good overview of what it would be like to work for GSK.
Yes I get on really well with EVERYONE that I work with, which makes working with them really comfortable.
I feel I could of had a little bit more support from my manager when needed, but could ask anyone in the team for help when I needed it.
There are days and weeks where there is alot of work to do, and some days which are much quieter but I've never been left with nothing to do, there is always work. I've even come in on the weekends to lend a helping hand.
Once I was trained I was left to run methods by myself, then once I was comfortable doing routine testing I was given my own projects which I planned and ran which little guidance from senior analysts
The masters projects that I have applied for in my 4th year of chemistry are onces that I have learnt on placement so will be very valuable
The Company
Everyone gets on and its a great environment, we all get on with the work we are supposed to be doing, but can enjoy each others company whilst doing it.
A training package was put in place before I started which allowed me to get trained appropriately throughout the year. I was also made aware of optional training for my benefits such as time management and finance if i wanted to sign up to them.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
My placement has made me aware of what it is like to work in industry, but it has also made me aware that I would want to go into a full job of my current position when i graduate. I would like to work for the company but in a more R&D role.
The Culture
All 11 of the IP students got on really well and we did alot of social things together. I got on well with a lot of colleagues and we always organised trips to the cinema, bowling or just the pub.
We were extremely lucky finding a cheap house in a good location but Worthing doesnt provide many student accommendation which made it very difficult. People who decided to live in brighton had to pay alot of travel. Restaurant and pub are a bit more on the expensive side but like everywhere else you need to find the places which do offers.
Worthing has no nightlife. However brighton is a 20min train journey away and has AMAZING nightlife which we have taken full advantage of.
