Overview
Leading and planning all on-site merchandising for one of the L'Oreal brands DTC websites, managing reviews and also owning the organic search channel and SEO strategy
Skills
My understanding and expertise around organic search, paid search and everything SEO has increased dramatically, as well as expertise on how to run and organise a consumer led website. From a behavioural perspective, I have also developed great skills in communication and how to act effectively and properly in an office environment
Responsibilities
100%. The minute I began my internship I was thrusted into the middle of a really big project. Whilst this meant at the start it was perhaps a baptism of fire and was very difficult, once I came through this I had gained the trust of my team and was given further responsibilities and trusted with other projects throughout the remainder of my internship. I cannot thank my team enough for this. I am wary though that this is not the case with every L'Oreal internship, it is completely dependant on what team and what brand you are placed on.
Support & Guidance
Weekly 1-2-1's with my manager as well as weekly team calls and clear communication on a daily basis
Culture
This would maybe be my one criticism. The culture you find yourself in completely depends on the brand and division you are in. Some brands and divisions have brilliant culture where everyone is supportive and sociable and there is a real team work ethic. Other brands and divisions have a very fake, two-faced culture where it seems even though people are nice to your face, they do not actually have your back. However if you are able to network across divisions and make good contacts in different areas of the business then this is not an issue.
Your Impressions
Doing this placement was the best decision I ever made. The amount I have learned is incredible. Even though there have been times where it has been difficult, it was 100% worth it and I would highly recommend people to apply. Once again though I am very aware that your L'Oreal experience is completely dependant on what brand and division you are in so it is a completely different experience for everyone.
