    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My job role has largely consisted of field work for audit clients within the Public Interest Entity service line. As a junior, you start off by doing a lot of sample testing which, in my case, included agreeing revenue invoices to transaction posted in the ledger - this is then agreed to bank statements. As I have progressed, I have started working on more analytical testing as well as visiting the clients.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have definitely improved my professional etiquette by working within a professional environment as well as working closely with clients. My understanding of audit and accountancy has progressed immensely by working in different areas of audit and completing all the training. As an accountant, you have to complete the qualification, which includes 6 exams in the first year, so I have developed my discipline and hard working mentality to pass these alongside working a full-time job.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • A lot of the responsibility lies within completing work to the deadlines set - client audits have tight deadlines and each team member is given the responsibility to complete these so the audit is finished in time. You are also given responsibility with client information which is confidential - we are entrusted in using this information in a responsible manner.

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I have received a lot of guidance during my placement; when you start you are given training and do numerous courses to get you up to speed to start working. Once you start working you have a great team around you, including senior members, who you can ask for advice and guidance.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company has a warming atmosphere and all members were very welcoming when I joined. The company like you to work hard but don't make you work extensive hours. There is a great social foundation where we do socials every month which really helps to create bonds within the team members.
