Overview
I worked in the City Investment team, where we provide bespoke advice to clients on the acquisition and disposal of assets in the City of London. Ultimately, I am the most junior member on the team, and therefore work gets passed down through the hierarchy and onto me. I have worked on acquisition proposals, portfolio overviews, attended viewings, created a development pipeline, ran cash flow models.
Skills
Indeed. I have developed my linguistic skills in the realm of real estate. I have improved my understanding of the interconnection between the Yield, Passing Rent and Value of Real Estate. I have developed an understanding of the key things investors consider when purchasing Real Estate. To me, what I've appreciated most, was gaining a better pulse on the current market and the cyclical challenges we're facing.
Responsibilities
I was definitely given responsibility. However, to say I was fully satisfied wouldn't quite be truthful. That being said, when I spoke up and asked to be run through a cash-flow model, I was given that responsibility. Perhaps, I should have spoken up more often.
Support & Guidance
I definitely received a lot of support and guidance. As previous work experience goes, my team here at Savills were the most supportive and helpful in giving me the confidence to complete my tasks.
Culture
Very friendly. Relaxed, but productive. Very open and approachable. Somewhat political in that, due to the client-based nature of this work, I sensed some slightly withheld relationships between seniors. However, this didn't affect me at all. I was welcomed in and treated like an employee quite soon into my Summer Scheme.
Your Impressions
Very much so. The interjection of Summer Scheme activities certainly helped with this.
Yes
Clearly outline your passion for real estate. Why are you interested, and ideally you have evidence to support that. Be unique, and let your personality shine through your words. Don't right robotically. Don't right what you think Savills wants to hear, because Savills is very focused on the people they hire, so they want to know about you.
