Overview
Pricing various ancillary (add-on) products to attain the highest profits. Analysing data on performance of these products to make the best decisions. Optimising the reporting of the financial performance. Optimising the distribution of the products. Conducting strategic reviews. Conducting competitor reviews. Meeting with others to discuss strategy and implement changes. Working on ad-hoc projects to fit the business' needs and goals.
Skills
I have become much more proficient in excel as well as PowerPoint. I have given various presentations so my public speaking skills have also improved significantly. I have gained knowledge and skills in creating business cases. Learnt how to trade products based on performance. Learnt a lot about the various operations within a business and how these fit together.
Responsibilities
I was given a fair bit of responsibility once I had gotten to grips with the basics of the role. I owned some of the products and delivered pricing meetings on these on a weekly basis. I also was given several projects which were mostly done independently but I was always given support when I requested it. I was able to manage my own workload and I wasn't micromanaged day to day - I was trusted to get my work done
Support & Guidance
I was constantly offered support throughout. I had a weekly 1-2-1 with my direct manager where I had the opportunity to discuss any issues, or additional help on work. My manager would also always bring points to these meetings to ensure I was on track and hadn't forgotten any key tasks. I also had a buddy in the business who I met for coffee regularly and the higher management were always very approachable and supportive.
Culture
TUI has an excellent company culture and a consistently positive atmosphere. I am a mature student and have worked in quite a few companies, TUI is by far the nicest place I have worked. Occasionally work loads can get quite high but everyone is understanding of this and knows that you will have multiple priorities - as they do. TUI is supportive, inclusive, understanding and flexible.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed being at TUI - although my specific role wasn't the most exciting, the team really make it up. The people are what make TUI so great. I was very lucky to go abroad on several work trips including the launch of a new cruise ship. These trips involved conferences and visits to key hotels in the portfolio during the day - and at night, TUI threw amazing parties and gala dinners to really celebrate and reward their employees.
Yes
As cliché as it sounds - be yourself. At TUI this is one of few places where I have found this phrase to be true. Hard work is rewarded, TUI has excellent rewards for those who stay with the business. Don't be afraid to ask for more responsibility or to spend some time working with another department. Be honest with your managers, at TUI I have found that suggestions and opinions are actually taken on board.
