Overview
The role focuses on reporting the performance of content across linear TV as well as on SVOD platforms such as Netflix or Amazon Prime in Europe. This is done through both regular reports (which are either monthly or quarterly) or ad-hoc requests from sales/marketing teams. Initially, the role focuses more on the regular reporting but as you become more comfortable with the different systems you can start to complete more ad-hoc requests. The work is generally quite varied.
Skills
Throughout my time, I have learnt and developed lots of skills. I'm much more comfortable with Excel than I was previously and have learnt how to use different features in Excel that I wasn't aware of. I've also learnt how to use media-specific systems such as Techedge and ITVR which were completely new to me. I also developed soft skills such as presentation skills and also learnt how to communicate effectively with other members of the company.
Responsibilities
I was eased in gently at the beginning and my responsibilities grew at a good rate. I became responsible for some regular reports about the performance of NBCU titles on UK TV, and as the internship progressed I became responsible for Germany as well. I would later become responsible for the completion of some ad-hoc requests. I always felt like my work was meaningful and it was satisfying to see my progression throughout the year.
Support & Guidance
I was supported very well throughout my internship, my line manager was incredibly approachable and would encourage me to ask lots of questions. I also felt that I could approach any member of the team and that they would be happy to help me with something when I got stuck. We were also supported by a mentor who was able to give career or general advice and answer any questions you had about the company.
Culture
The company has a great atmosphere and culture, everyone is friendly and approachable. There are frequent events such as quizzes and socials which help you to get to know people. As there is a large intern cohort (around 80 for my year) there are plenty of people to socialise with both in and out of work. I found that I was integrated into the company incredibly quickly and was able to meet a lot of people in a short space of time.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. I was given meaningful work to do and I felt supported whilst I was doing it. I was able to complete projects independently and was given the freedom to complete them in the way that I saw fit. I found the culture of the company to be great and both my team and my line manager were incredibly friendly. I was impressed with the mentorship scheme as well as the number of events that were put on by the company.
Yes
I would advise anyone applying to NBCUniversal to ensure that they show their interest in film ,TV and media as well as demonstrating their suitability for the role itself. I would also suggest to have a look at their upcoming film releases and to think about which NBCUniversal films and shows that you have watched in the past and if any of them stood out to you. Also try to be yourself in the interview.
