Overview
Check-ins with seniors on the audit job, discuss progress and queries of allocated sections. independently work through allocated financial statement areas- involves rolling forward working papers, picking samples, processing samples by checking the GL transaction details to the supporting documents e.g. invoices, workings, emails , 3rd party docs etc. Set up teams calls with clients for discussions.
Skills
Learnt a lot of handy excel skills, accounting and audit knowledge. Further developed all the soft skills you can think of.
Responsibilities
Yes. A lot of responsibility is given to you as you take ownership of the sections allocated. For e.g. being allocated expense section of the audit- you have to gather all the relevant information and conduct all the test in that working paper. You request the information, set up calls with clients to discuss info that they've given, you take ownership to make sure your section is complete.
Support & Guidance
I'd say a fair amount. The people on your team know your at a beginner level and wouldn't have knowledge so are very keen to mentor you. Mazars has a general environment of mentoring others around you so that the overall standard of peoples ability is greatly improved. So a lot of support is available.
Culture
Very friendly and really positive. Like i said before, people around the firm are very keen on helping others out to improve quality- that in it self shows an open and comfortable environment to be around.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it thoroughly. I managed to get exposure to practically nearly all areas of audit, when i asked i want to take on a section that i haven't done before with some coaching, i was granted the opportunity to do so. Stock takes, away jobs, company events, everything played a part in why i enjoyed my placement.
Yes
Show you have a real drive and passion to learn and you will (hopefully) get the job. You don't need to have an accounting background to excel in Mazars, what they look for is someone who is able to adapt and be open minded, able to sacrifice a bit of time to learn properly about the job.
