Overview
I would help my manager to create estimates and then present them to a team of subject matter experts to check it makes sense. As my placement went on my ability to help with tasks grew and gained more and more responsibilities.
Skills
I developed my communication skills. And learnt about reflecting and ways in which I could develop myself. My ability to work effectively grew and my Excel skill level went up a few levels.
Responsibilities
At the start no, but as the placement continued I was gradually given more and more responsibility. This was until my final month when I realise how much I was responsible for doing and acknowledged how much I had improved since joining the company.
Support & Guidance
My manager offered a lot of support. A lot of other colleagues and team members offered an abundance of support. On top of this, the estimating team has a real push for taking mental health seriously and overall is a positive environment. BAE also offers support through it's associated aides.
Culture
Where the company is large you get a mixed bag. For me, I found this very beneficial. You meet different types of people with different viewpoints.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement. Working for the company was a pleasure and I got a lot out of it both for personal and professional growth.
Yes
Be yourself at the company, and try to take on as many opportunities as you can at the company. You'll be offered a plethora them so it is on you to take them up.
