The Role
Really enjoyed the year - definately worth doing
I was included with all group meetings, where I presented my data and felt I was generating valuabole data for the team
My supervisor and other colleages were always available when I needed help. Evereyone is friendly, approachable and readay to help
Generally, I was fairly busy. You can manage your own time and schedule in experiments to suit you, so you determine how busy you are. Howvere for two motnhs of my placememt, there was not much work to be done, so mainly office work and research for my project.
I could arrange my own experiments and was given a specific project with as much/as little help as needed.
This is the career I want to pursue, so this give me perfect experience of the skills I need
The Company
I was in a small office with three others, so quite quiet. However there are lots of other students in my department to meet up with for lunch and work in the lab with
Very well set-up, experienced in having placement students and student friendly.
We had a number of training modules at the start, most however were health and safety. Everyone is given a personal supervisor, who will teach lab work skills.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Above 25 days holiday
If you want to stay in R&D, a graduate job seems unlikey - PhD and experience prefered. However, there are graduate schemes in other areas of the company.
The Culture
Over 100 other students, so there was always somethign going on.
Average. Not a lot to do at all in Stevenage, which helps keep the cost down! But London is not far away.
A few pubs, one awful club and a bowling alley!
A few charity runs were organised.
