Overview
My main role is to run Assessment centres. I arrange interviewers and take note of their feedback and see if the candidate has passed their interviews. I check and record candidates results in various stages of the recruitment process on excel spreadsheets. We also send out psychometric tests. I conduct right to work checks as part of the vetting process and make sure all candidates docs are recorded on our Applicant tracking system.
Skills
I have become more familiar with excel and have improved my skills due to the numerous spreadsheets i work with in my job. Ive have improved my public speaking skills by doing placement projects and presenting to senior stakeholders in the company. I have expanded my network and improved my communication skills and collaborate with others. I have improved my business awareness and kept up to speed with key changes in the business and market. I have also assisted with job board postings and found ways to better optimise job posts for the company.
Responsibilities
Being in recruitment means i'm able to see the candidates journey in different stages and so i need to accurately record results and send emails across to do the whole recruitment department. If the wrong results are recorded it can affect the candidates recruitment process and cause issues. The specific elements that we need to pay attention to that can have a knock on effect if not followed so the AC team communicate with each other daily to speak about any changes or developments.
Support & Guidance
I had support from my line managers as well as Team Leads and regional managers would also touch base with us. If i had any questions im able to ask my line manager or team freely and if there were questions for regional managers i was able to send a message on teams or email depending on the nature of the matter at hand. I also had support during my placement project from my stakeholders and the other placement students.
Culture
For me company culture is important when joining a company. FDM is inclusive and although it could be improved there are efforts being made. They focus on campaigns like She Lives Tech which focuses on the female talent pool and assisting them in tech careers, and as a women myself i think its a great idea and really showcases a culture and motive that i want to be part of. Being based in the London office there are various event for consultants and internal staff so the general atmosphere is busy and productive.
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed my placement year and would recommend students to take a year out of their studies to really expand their knowledge and skills. Having taken a placement year i have developed as a person and gained more skills and know how to work in different environments with changing business requirements. Im glad to have met so many people across the business and learned so much from different departments.
Yes
Really do your own research into the company and know what you are interested in. Think of skills that you want to work on and how the company can help you in your journey of improving those skills.
