Overview
Using internal and external data to analyse the health of the labour market and wider economy. The results of the analysis are then reported to more senior members of the department.
Skills
I have learnt how to carry out basic coding procedures in SAS to output original pieces of analysis. I have also developed my project management and presentation skills, as well as opportunities to carry our training for other team members.
Responsibilities
I was given the responsibility of a regular reporting pack as well as a piece of original analysis and evidence base building. While my manager has had final say on all major decisions the day to day running of these projects has been down to me.
Support & Guidance
I have both a line manager and a grade manager who I have been able to turn to for support. I have weekly meetings with my manager and monthly meetings with my grade manager.
Culture
It is a very friendly place to work, everyone who I have interacted with has been very nice. The work life balance is also very good here.
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed the placement as a whole. There have been some challenges but there would be at any new work place.
Yes
Make sure your economic knowledge is up to date for the interview as they will focus on your technical knowledge when choosing prospective employees. Additionally, try to have enthusiasm for the work that the department does as you will spend a lot of time working on analysis for various schemes that the department carries out.
