Overview
I was a data analyst in the recruitment team. This involved sending out regular reports to managers across the world regarding figures for all the different stages and areas of the recruitment process. I also fulfilled ad-hoc requests whereby people asked for specific data that I provided them with.
Skills
I have become very proficient in Excel, as well as managing, displaying and filtering large data sets. Data visualisation has also been a massive part of my role, to ensure I can effectively present my findings to others. My business acumen has also improved as I have had a good insight into the inner workings of large companies.
Responsibilities
I was given an incredible amount of responsibility in my role. Once my handover period ended, I was the only data analyst in the whole recruitment team, meaning I was solely responsible for all reports and data requests. People from across our global offices would come to me for help and I had to figure out the best way to provide this.
Support & Guidance
I always had my line manager to turn to if I needed anything regarding my general welfare, as well ad other placement studnets who were very helpful. Regarding my data analyst role, there was some guidance but only on one or two days a week. The rest of the time I was responsible for myself and my own work.
Culture
It was very enjoyable. We often had social events and drinks after work to help with team building. The dress code was smart casual which added to the relaxed atmosphere. There was also table tennis and pool tables to use during lunch to help de-stress.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement overall and feel like it has provided me with invaluable experience for my professional career. I would certainly recommend it to people looking for a data science role, or other similar careers. Further, I have made many meaningful connections and massively increased the size of my professional network.
Yes
I would tell them to not worry if they do not understand everything at once and feel a bit overwhelmed for the first few weeks. It is a very challenging role that takes getting used to , but once you get going you will feel very satisfied with yourself and your role within the company.
