Overview
When assigned to a project, I would develop certain parts of a ServiceNow application based on given requirements. Attend any meetings regarding the projects and update the team of any important information. When not assigned to projects, I would do some self learning on different parts of the ServiceNow platform which I have limited experience with. Communicate and consult with the customer of anything that is needed.
Skills
The training programme provided me with many new skills necessary to operate and develop applications using ServiceNow. The instructors taught me well enough where I can pass different exams for ServiceNow which allowed me to be certified to work with the platform. It also developed my existing skills and knowledge learned from my experience studying Computer Science at university; this included database table design skills and programming languages best practices.
Responsibilities
I was given many responsibilities during my placement. Development was the most important responsibility as certain requirements were given a deadline in order to present to the customer. Responsibilities away from customer projects were also given which you have to make time for.
Support & Guidance
I was given lots of support on my placement. I had Microsoft Teams to communicate with others and ask for help when needed. The response time when asking for help was mostly quick which ensured different tasks that I needed help with were completed on time.
Culture
The company culture was very friendly and quite inclusive. Due to this I did not hesitate much to asking for help when needed. It was also very social as the department would hold regular events and would organise work together days at the office.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement because of the level of interaction I had with others combined with the friendly atmosphere.
Yes
My main advice is to be more open to talking to other and asking for help. Project managers would need to be updated regularly to ensure certain tasks are on track. Speak up when you are stuck on task, the reason for this is to not delay parts of development.
