Overview
My ‘business as usual’ tasks involved being responsible for managing employee changes on the HR system. This would include position transfers, salary uplifts, promotions etc. I was also responsible for raising new positions to send through to the Talent Acquisition team so that these jobs could be posted for recruitment. Other ad hoc tasks include note taking, holding employee interviews and being a secondary point of contact for employees to approach for any HR queries
Skills
I have definitely improved my time management skills, having supported two divisions throughout the year. This role demands you to be versed in people management and I definitely feel that this has developed over the year as I operate as a point of support for employees, especially during particularly sensitive times. My communication skills and stakeholder management have also improved as a result
Responsibilities
I definitely feel that I was given a lot of responsibility and autonomy for this role as the HRBPs allowed me to make various decisions and contribute to discussions rather than just being present. I was allowed to venture out to other areas of HR and essentially shape the structure of my internship accordingly to my preferences
Support & Guidance
Alongside the department trainings that I attended (which were very constructive towards developing skills) I was able to approach anyone for help if I needed it. If I was interested in getting involved with something, I was able to ask and contribute to tasks/ projects which were of interest to me.
Culture
The culture of L’Oreal is very social and inviting. There’s is no rigid structure or barriers preventing interns reaching out to other employees for questions, favours etc. Everyone is very approachable and outgoing. There is also a culture of entrepreneurship, with constant innovation and ideas being brought to the table. This energy relays onto other employees to cultivate an environment of collaboration
Your Impressions
I overall really enjoyed my internship experience as it completely exceeded my expectations and challenged me as a person. I’m confident that the skills that I’ve learnt will be applicable to anything that I choose to do
Yes
I would suggest being versed in company’s initiatives and being able to articulate why the values align to your way of working. Being confident in your responses and eager to learn and grow is also very appreciated
