Overview
Working within the global Customer Technical Program team, supporting the GE90 and GE9X engine product line. Leading and supporting technical efforts to improve productivity and profitability. Responsibilities included: Engine Tooling Development / Support - Designing and updating engine tooling. New Product Implementation - Supporting projects involving new products like the GE9X. Workshop Technical Support - Providing technical support and information regarding engine hardware passing through the workshop.
Skills
I have developed several skills throughout my placement, in particular: Technical Knowledge - Understanding the architecture of the GE90 engine and assembly / disassembly processes. Timekeeping & Organisation - I have learnt to structure my work day in order to keep my projects on time. Presentation Skills - During my placement I have had many opportunities to present to an audience, which is something that I used to be very nervous about. I am now far more comfortable presenting.
Responsibilities
Yes, the large amount of responsibility that I was given during my placement is one of the things that I most enjoyed over the year. I lead several projects during the year, which had the potential to impact the business in a significant way. This is an excellent opportunity for development.
Support & Guidance
I was given lots of support during the year from my mentor, who was very helpful in answering any questions I may have had. I worked closely with my mentor during the year and he helped guide me through my projects.
Culture
The company culture is built on acting with humility, ensuring that everyone is treated with kindness and respect.
Your Impressions
I have very much enjoyed my placement at GE Aerospace Wales, and I would recommend it to any student who is looking for a placement where they can gain experience with aircraft engines.
