Overview
We had presentations from higher management about the structure and function of the teams they lead, attended interactive workshops on finance, programming and hedging strategies, as well as an advanced machine learning seminar. Social activities were also a priority, it was a great week of connecting with people from G-Research and peers!
Skills
I improved my understanding of some machine learning concepts during the workshops, however the main skill I developed is networking and asking relevant questions while evaluating whether this career is for me.
Business Insight
Understanding the business was quite illuminating as the teams were open to discuss what they do on a larger scale (without getting into specifics). Potential roles and the path towards them were clearly outlined, it was focused on quant careers.
Culture
All people from G-Research were very friendly and happy to answer questions, so it left me a good impression on the company culture.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it a lot -- I think a big part of the success was a good balance between learning about G-Research through workshops and the social, relaxing activities during the week which gave time to connect and network. The team who organised it truly did a great job, many thanks to them!
Yes
First of all is clearly knowing why you want to apply, doing some research to have an understanding of quantitative finance and what they do. As for the application specifics, basic probability and stats is necessary, as is clearly communicating your research and motivations. They do give a lot of support in the application process so I would not worry too much about step-by-step details before applying.
