Overview
Summer Scheme Students are given trainee solicitor level tasks. This included: conducting research, creating summaries, drafting letters, creating bundles, writing up attendance notes and filling in standard forms. All of the work given was relevant to real life matters ongoing at RPC. Those on the Summer Scheme had the opportunity to experience a different team per week, with the opportunity to give different preferences at the beginning of the scheme.
Skills
RPC pairs you with a trainee buddy who, in my experience, were invaluable in providing advice regarding how you can improve your work. I definitely felt that the work I submitted on the last day of the scheme had drastically improved from the first piece that I had submitted. It was incredibly fulfilling to work on my writing and proof reading skills.
Business Insight
The partner and senior associate approachability at RPC meant that it was easy to gain an understanding of how RPC’s business strategy a simple coffee catch-up. Additionally, Early Talent organised multiple opportunities to learn more about the different teams within the firm, hosting workshops, as well as structured networking sessions.
Culture
Incredibly open and friendly. RPC markets themselves as “Strikingly Real” and in my experience, this ran true throughout all levels of the firm. Senior staff were very approachable and willing to answer queries, a few of them even asked if I wanted to have lunch with them throughout the scheme. The open plan office also meant that you got to meet a lot of people which was great.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the whole scheme.
