The Role
My role took me away from the education i had received through my degree and a-levels, it opened my eyes to a broader knowledge with a variety of projects and opportunities
With new faces come new skills, tactics and creative ideas; the hardest task is making people aware of those areas that you can impact on. After working with the teams in my department, creating new tools and improving process, I began to be approached more often as a source of help/ assistance. Additionally with comfidence i began voicing my ideas, seeing that they were received positively and used showed value.
My supervisor and General manager pushed me to receive training and work crossfunctionally, they were not just looking for the value add i brought to the team, with continuous highlighting that they are here to help my future aswel. If i had any issues or gaps in my capability to complete my work, they were always willing to walk me through a task or find the correct knowledge source. Additionally With quarterly reviews & weekly 1-2-1's for the tracking of my tasks, impact on them and where they could help fill any gaps i had for my own employability, come graduation; I felt more than capable/ supported to complete my duties.
With a numerous variety of projects and tasks, there was always something for me to work on, given that it was upon my decision the input i gave to the work i produced.
I was given multiple projects to lead, and the chance to choose those which i lead, this was a highlight of my placement as i thrive off of responsibility/ accountability.
As my role differed from my university degree, i am now able to justify and understand non-financial implications of operations in to my studies. With official project management trainig, i can now improve my employability making it clear on my C.V that I am aware of tools and processes, with additional experience to prove i have the capability for this skill set. Furthermore, my role took me away from the education i had received through my degree and a-levels, it broadened my knowledge giving myself the capability to work/ understand crossfunction aspects of business.
The Company
Friendly atmosphere throughout, although not everyday is going to be a fun one, you could easily find yourself having a full conversation with everyone. Its a good thing that you dont like it when a team member is out of office, as it quietens your day.
Cosidering this was a new role within a department that had not hired an intern before, the workload was plentyfull and i received more than enough training. Although, the first month was slow starting, as im sure any job will be for a new employee; fortunately i will be around to guide the next intern.
I received multiple training opportunities, form engineering awareness on their products to further financial training relating to a business enviroment. Unfortunately i am only here for a year, and there is much i wish i could have received, the only area i would is product awareness at induction; this will help confidence form a start point.

As long as i am welcomed here (which i hope i am) it will be close to/ if not the top of my application list for post graduate rolls
The Culture
with a large number of placement students hired each year, there is plenty of differenciated groups to cater for all personalities and hobbies. Further more, many full time employees enjoy socialising with interns; i will come away with many friends that i will keep intouch with.
taking the pay in to consideration, you can rent a place, pay your contracts, eat well, treat yourself regularly and still £££'s to save for something like travelling or a new T.V.
Its no London or Manchester, but it will do for a year! (plus canterbury & London aren't far, for special occassions)
you can get involved in anything that your willing to seek out, I walked in to a decent football team to keep my fit for the year. It might be far form home or what resembles a city, but this place is an experience, and it would be your own fault if you were to get bored
