Overview
Assisting audit teams in audit procedures. Contacting the clients when needed, attending catch up meetings/calls, coaching sessions with senior members of the team. Updating progress in internal software. Studying for ACA exams when on study leave.
Skills
Improvement in MS Excel. Learnt how to use internal audit software. Increased my accounting understanding and skills. Improved independent work.
Responsibilities
There is a lot of responsibility which is unnerving at the beginning. Auditors handle a lot of very sensitive data. Sometimes the data is confusing and overwhelming so you have to be very cautious when testing it.
Support & Guidance
Not as much as I expected. Sometimes I struggled and senior team members did not have time to provide coaching which led to slight delays and tense atmosphere. People on placements are not expected to have any prior knowledge of accounting, so there should be more support and coaching offered at the beginning.
Culture
I really enjoyed the company culture and the atmosphere in the office. Audit's motto is 'work hard, play hard'. There is a lot of young people in the office so it is not too hard to find someone to connect with. There are a lot of social activities going on.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed it as it was a great start to my future career, whether it will be accountancy or audit. I enjoyed working with most of the teams.
Yes
Be yourself during the application process. I wasn't the quickest one or the most active one during the AC but the feedback I got highlighted my personality. Some people get too tense and formal during the interview and it might be hard to have a good rapport with the interviewer.
