Overview
Tasks vary by day, it will depend on what your team is currently working on and what your line manager assigns you. I have shadowed in meetings, put together some budget summaries on excel, and written reports. You also have the opportunity to do a group task with other interns, and work on this one afternoon per week.
Skills
The main skill that I have been developing is working on using excel. One of my colleagues has helped me to do this in person and I have also been shown online modules that I can complete to aid this development.
Responsibilities
In my second week I presented a piece of work in a meeting. I had completed it independently but it was checked over by my manager. I thought it was the perfect level of responsibility for that stage of the internship.
Support & Guidance
A lot. I was paired with a graduate buddy whom I had weekly meetings with to check up on my progress and make sure I didn't have any issues. My line manager was also very supportive and pushed me without giving me anything I couldn't do.
Culture
Very good. Everyone I interacted with was very friendly and up for explaining what they did to me.
Your Impressions
It has been an overly positive experience. I'm not sure banking will be the career path I follow however it was a great insight into what a corporate job is like.
Yes
Take every opportunity given to you, whether it's connecting with others or doing an independent piece of work. Also go into the office as much as you can, you'll learn much more in-person than working remotely but it's also nice to have that flexibility.
