Overview
Within my role, I work with various different departments from across the business. On a day to day basis, I manage temps and contractors, as well as Early Careers eg. Undergraduate recruitment. I also manage the resourcing inbox so I escalate queries to the wider team. My main project involves the Undergraduate recruitment from screening, shortlisting to video interviews and arranging assessment centres to recruit new talent into the business.
Skills
This role has massively developed both my hard and soft skills. I have been able to communicate with various difficult stakeholders thus enhancing my communication skills as well as my stakeholder management. Within my role, I also present to candidates and welcome them into the business, therefore increasing my confidence speaking in front of others as well as my presentation skills.
Responsibilities
Yes, this is one of the reasons that I applied for the placement at VWFS because I knew that I would be given responsibility from the outset. With the support of my team, I managed the Undergraduate Assessment Centre and Familiarisation Event, which were events with 50 plus people and circa 50 hiring managers, which was a big responsibility but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gained lots of valuable skills.
Support & Guidance
I always felt very supported by my team, I had weekly catch ups with my manager and team meetings every other week. I also felt able to contact my team when needed if I ever needed support.
Culture
The company culture came as a massive shock to me as everyone was so friendly and welcoming from the outset. Working with people in different areas was really enjoyable as everyone was always happy to help and friendly which made the overall experience at VWFS more enjoyable.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year, and feel that I have come out with loads more skills. I am looking forward to utilising my skills and experience when applying for graduate schemes and feel that this year as benefited me both personally and professionally.
Yes
My main piece of advice would be to be yourself because that's what they are looking for. They are seeking ambitious and open minded individuals who are willing to learn and get involved with several different projects. So apply because you wont regret it and it's a great learning experience.
