Overview
I am in the UK occupier management team and my sub-division focused on the estate management of Sainsbury's convenience. My role involves lease auditing, lease analysis, carrying out inspections and surveys, and updating portfolio reports.
Skills
New skills: - Lease reading - Inspection - Data management - Accounting principles and procedures Development of existing skills: - Communication - Collaboration - Insightfulness - Inclusivity - Team working - Adaptability - Resilience
Responsibilities
Cushman and Wakefield are a very large company with various service lines. However within Global Occupier Services, I am in a team with few people therefore I was granted responsibility to carry out inspections and surveys by myself and I felt as though there was opportunity to impress my supervisors. I was given vast responsibility to network both internally and externally of the company.
Support & Guidance
I received lots of support throughout the internship, especially at the start when getting familiar with data systems and IT through the helpdesk as well as my supervisors. Through the internship, I was given freedom to schedule events within the company and externally.
Culture
There is a great sense of collaboration at Cushman and Wakefield, whereby there is a strong 'one team' initiative that allows interns to integrate with a wide range of people in the company. Whether this be other interns, line managers and even heads of departments, everybody is very friendly and keen to get to know everyone.
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed my internship to the full extent, which has definitely encouraged me to pursue a career in real estate as a graduate.
Yes
Be confident. Of course the HR department and employers are looking for candidates who are professional and eager to network. However I think the most important factors are to be friendly and ready to learn. Three of the core values at C+W are inclusivity, insightfulness, and collaboration so it is essential to be a team player.
