Overview
I work on my own assay development project. This involves planning and carrying out my own practical work and meetings with my supervisor and members of my project team to feedback my work. I record and write-up these experiments. I also attend other talks from scientists both inside and outside the company.
Skills
I've learnt lots of practical biology skills. I've also developed my communication and presentation skills, as well as problem solving.
Responsibilities
Yes - I was given my own project which is needed for a drug development program, however I had lots of help and guidance with this.
Support & Guidance
Lots of guidance from my supervisor and other colleagues in the department. Also support available from placement team if needed.
Culture
General positive atmosphere, people always happy to help. Lots of events put on for all employees and network opportunities. Not expected to work beyond a 9-5.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement - the work was really interesting, I developed a lot of skills and enjoyed lots of social opportunities.
Yes
Be open minded about the project you are given as even if it's not in the exact area you wanted you can still get a lot from it, including transferable skills. Make the most of the social opportunities and networking.
