Overview
Technical Test Engineer - Testing the front end of client websites & apps. Writing test scripts for each feature of the website, reviewing test scripts, executing and raising identified bugs. The general layout and formatting of the website is also verified and as well as checking the formatting of meta information is correct such as dd/mm/yyyy or mm/dd/yyyy.
Skills
Several new skills were learnt, related to the testing practise including: the software testing life cycle, agile and Scrum project management, Devops. Software skills were also developed in Java, testing software such as Mavern & Jenkins and management software such as Jira.
Responsibilities
A notable level of responsibility was given for this placement as certain testing was carried out on certain devices and you could be assigned to be fully responsible for ensuring the website functioned on a certain device.
Support & Guidance
A great deal of guidance was provided during the placement with frequent tutorials and written documentation for established processes and how to use certain tools. Queries to managers were answered quickly.
Culture
Due to the scale of the company and the work-from-home nature of my placement, there was less opportunity to engage in the company culture unless you lived nearby a company office.
Your Impressions
The training phases of the placement were significantly useful for the development of soft and technical skills while the work schedule allowed for the development of workplace skills.
Yes
Initial applications involve both online logic tests and interviews. Some practise of online logic tests would be useful and a base knowledge of the job field would benefit the questions raised in the interview.
