The Role
Microsoft is a amazing place to work. The people are great, the company is great, you learn so much!
The people is what makes the company great, I have never been treated as or felt like just another "intern". I did feel valued by my team, and your treated just like any other employee, which is exactly what you want.
You can go to and talk to your manager regarding anything. Your manager will help you and guide you with any issues you have. There are there to ensure you develop and grow into the business and expand the ranges of experiences you have, in or outside your team.
I think its a good balance. Some days you feel quite busy and some days you feel very busy and some days you feel relaxed - but that's what any job will entail - I would rather be busy rather than sitting around - that way you know your having a impact.
My responsibilities varied from short term to long term, so projects would be for the whole year, and some would be for a week or so. Overall I believe I had projects that covered various aspects of the business.
Personally, what I have learnt from this year will stay with me into and beyond future careers. The transition from the world of university into the corporate world, it really does open your eyes. Here at Microsoft the skills I have picked up from the just talking to various colleagues and if you want to learn something new, there are always opportunities for you to go along to some sessions, in and outside your job. In terms of degree studies - it really helps put certain theories you learn in some modules into perspective. Overall this year has motivated myself, as its given me a idea of where I want to be, and what I need to do, to be there!
The Company
Great atmosphere. Lively, motivates you to work, but very social too. Great balance.
Very well. Throughout the year, especially at the beginning we had events and inductions which help us get settled in, we were always kept informed regarding anything important we had to know.
In my job role. I was lucky enough to travel to various countries to attend various meetings and training. If a company lets you travel as an Intern - they are in it for your development. Its all about the experiences which helps your development and skills.

I was based in Reading, Housing wasn't too bad, around £350 pcm including bills. - Reading town, isn't too expensive either. Great shopping centre in central Reading. Good travel links.
