    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The intern role involves getting involved in current audits whilst gaining insights into how the bank operates and how they keep themselves safe and secure. Alongside this, the internship provides us with a business project to complete and lots of opportunities to network, enhance our skills, train to use data analysis software such as Power BI and Tableau and lots more exciting things.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I am constantly improving my analytical and relationship skills. I have completed training for a new data visualization software called Power BI. I have been networking constantly, meeting lots of new people and developing my communication, confidence and social skills. I have also been improving my excel skills, there are lots of free courses NatWest provide in order to develop our skills.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Managers made sure that myself and other Internal Audit interns were completing tasks that contributed directly to the current audit they were working on. We were invited to all team meetings to discuss the audit progress. We have also been given a business project of which we have to complete by a certain time, that we the have to present back to our managers.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • -Regular meetings with managers to discuss progress, work and how to improve. -Meetings with our individual allocated buddies for more relaxed chats. -Wellbeing zoom calls -Chats with support members -Access to lots of online materials and websites

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The environment is very relaxed however challenging and keeps you busy. They really care about your wellbeing, arrange lots of fun social events, arrange valuable training sessions, arrange CSR/ volunteering days. Lots of work, however is fun and very beneficial to my independent development. They give you time for self-led learning to develop your own skills.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • It was even better than I expected. Gained great insights into the role of an Auditor. Made great connections, met amazing people. Developed soft skills and hard skills. Received training to use data visualization software, attended social events, completed valuable audit tasks, attended team meetings. I would definitely recommend NatWest internships and I am so glad I got the opportunity to be a part of one.

  • Be confident, when taking the interviews make sure to provide examples of when you have demonstrated NatWest CPCs. Think of how you relate to their company purpose and how you would really benefit from the internship. Everybody at NatWest wants you to grow and is on your side, be kind and confident and show willingness. Perform to your highest potential to be in with a chance of gaining a place and make the most of the opportunity!
