The Role
The work itself was quite tedious, but the real opportunities come from being invited in to a big corporate company and taking advantage of all opportunities to network.
I had good relations with all my team personally and professionally. They all understood that this placement was part of my degree and always respected my University deadlines.
You are often placed in uncomfortable situations, e.g presenting, my team always provided me with support, good feedback and advice.
Fluctuated often. Workload fell in time with IBM's calendar year, which meant very busy at the end of the months, especially December.
If I requested additional workload it would always be given, however not always the most challenging, often very tedious tasks!
One main skill I have developed is my Excel knowledge, which I am sure will help me in University and my future career. However I feel the main development has been adapting to a corporate lifestyle and understanding how big organisations operate, that has been the most valuable insight.
The Company
I worked alongside a big group of interns, so even though some managers worked from home on occasion, there were always other interns around in the office.
You are given one Manager to supervise your development and a Task Manager to assign you daily tasks. In theory, this sounded promising, however the two reporting lines often conflicted.
I constantly had opportunities to develop my presentation and communication skills throughout the year as well as free online training courses.

Working from home
If you make the most of your time as an intern, there are some opportunities to fast track a few applications stages for the Graduate scheme.
The Culture
There were lots of interns at my base location and always something being organised. If you want to get involved in the social side, it is very easy to.
Left the year in debt with no savings!
Really enjoyed living in London for the year, definitely something for everyone!
Even though I experienced heavy workloads at month ends, most of my fellow interns followed the same work pattern and therefore everything was organised for nights when we had quieter days.
