    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was difficult at first to adapt to working life but after a few months I found it incredibly rewarding and really enjoyed it.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Although my colleagues did take into consideration the fact I was a placement student, the majority of the time I was treated as any other member of staff. Sometimes I was left out of conversations I would have liked to be involved in beacuse I was a student but I am sure if I would have asked to be included this would not have been a problem.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisor was excellent and always had time to answer my questions or give me guidance. He always asked and offered resource and support when needed. He encouraged me to challenge myself and enabled me to develop my skills.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At ther beginning of the placement I was not very busy as I had to decide on my project plan and get settled into the company. As time went on I became extremely busy and often worked very long days. I would encourage students to think carefully about organising time efficiently and ensuring plans are feasible with the amount of time available.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility in my placement as I designed my own project and carried it out indepndently. I was in charge from the planning, to the implementing, to the recording and presenting of results. It was expected I would carry out all work to a higstandard.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I am a much more capable engineer now as well as a more capable person in terms of people management and time management. I have learnt how to remain calm and be efficient in my working environment.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My colleagues were very focused on working hard and getting all the jons of the day done. Therefore it was often quiet. However, there was a general friendly atmosphere with a lot of comaraderie and team spirit.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I would say that as I was given so much responsibility for my project it was not that well organised and I could have done it a lot better. However, it was an important learning experience to go through designing and implementing my own project. I was given training, tours and resources such as a laptop all in a very efficient amount of time.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was able to attend to training courses based on technical areas and there were many company resopurces such as books that I was able to use. There was a whole training plan set up to complete in compliance with the company standards.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was the only placement student on my site which was unfortunate however, I have still made some good friends with work colleagues. We often go out after work and there are many social events.
