    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really good year overall although at times I wasn't as busy as I would have liked.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very good friendly atmosphere and I felt my work was valued by others.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Great support given throughout the placement.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Generally busy but there were quieter times were I sometimes didn't have enough to do - this was often unavoidable to a certain extent though given the nature of the work (eg. long incubation times or waiting for cells to grow etc)

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was able to plan and carry out experiments independently.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Gained lots of really useful skills that should help me both back at uni and in future jobs.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I had a really nice office with a very friendly atmosphere.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Generally very good as they are used to taking on students every year - there were a few issues but these were due to the external agency managing us not to GSK and should be resolved for future students.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was given plenty of training throughout the placement.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Good graduate scheme in other areas but unlikely to get anything in the area of my placement without further study.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were lots of other students working at the same site so there was a good social side to it as well.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Not too bad depending on where you go, I managed to get a house with cheap rent but it varied a lot.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Pretty poor within Stevenage itself - plenty of pubs, some of which were semi-decent, but only one or two clubs. London isn't too far away though so that's a bonus!

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • A few social events and clubs in the area to join if you were interested.

    4/5
