The Role
Really good year overall although at times I wasn't as busy as I would have liked.
Very good friendly atmosphere and I felt my work was valued by others.
Great support given throughout the placement.
Generally busy but there were quieter times were I sometimes didn't have enough to do - this was often unavoidable to a certain extent though given the nature of the work (eg. long incubation times or waiting for cells to grow etc)
I was able to plan and carry out experiments independently.
Gained lots of really useful skills that should help me both back at uni and in future jobs.
The Company
I had a really nice office with a very friendly atmosphere.
Generally very good as they are used to taking on students every year - there were a few issues but these were due to the external agency managing us not to GSK and should be resolved for future students.
I was given plenty of training throughout the placement.
Sports and Social Club
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
Good graduate scheme in other areas but unlikely to get anything in the area of my placement without further study.
The Culture
There were lots of other students working at the same site so there was a good social side to it as well.
Not too bad depending on where you go, I managed to get a house with cheap rent but it varied a lot.
Pretty poor within Stevenage itself - plenty of pubs, some of which were semi-decent, but only one or two clubs. London isn't too far away though so that's a bonus!
A few social events and clubs in the area to join if you were interested.
