Overview
Learning from your line manager and other employees and asking them questions about what their jobs entail. Also helping them by completing any odd jobs they give you to help them with their workload.
Skills
I practiced my presentation skills, as well as learning a range of job-specific skills for the first time.
Responsibilities
The internship mostly consisted of 'safe' tasks with less responsibility and shadowing work colleagues, rather than leading on anything myself.
Support & Guidance
Everyone went out of their way to support me and explain what their jobs involved / difficult topics to me, and always asked if I had any questions they could answer. They were also very happy to help if I was ever unsure about a piece of work they'd given me.
Culture
Very friendly culture, everyone always very welcoming to you and happy to take the time to explain things and answer any questions. Office mood in general seemed quite laid back and staff didn't seemed stressed or under pressure. The people I worked with never put any pressure on me and were never impolite or irritable.
Your Impressions
It gave me a good understanding of a sector of the property industry I had never experienced before. Employees really facilitated that, as they were always happy to answer questions I had. I would have preferred a bit more work to do as there were periods where there was little for me to be getting on with, but I think that depends on which team you're put in and how busy they are.
Yes
The application process is one of the more intense for summer internships, so be prepared for several stages. They don't expect you to know much about the job before turning up so don't worry if you're not that familiar with the industry or what the job entails.
