Overview
Sat in Corporate and Litigation with a different supervisor. My day-to-day involved completing tasks set by supervisor specific to my practice. For instance, in Corporate, I produced a bible for a recent transaction. The main focus of each day was completing my research tasks, and acting on the feedback that was given midweek. Elsewhere, I attended practice overviews, specific deal case studies, affinity group talks, and organised chats with Latham associates to find out more about the firm
Skills
Time management and organisation: rescheduling meetings, navigating clashes, and being flexible with timing Attention to detail: it was easy to focus on the substance of the research task, but I had to pay particular attention to making sure the task was free of typos etc, as if it was a piece of work being sent to a client. Networking: reaching out to Latham lawyers without being intimidated to learn more about the firm.
Business Insight
There was a lot of information to take in, but the talks were structured well, and I never felt overwhelmed. It was refreshing and reassuring especially to learn about the affinity groups and how a trainee could participate. The lack of hierarchy made learning about the business and potential roles much easier.
Culture
Welcoming, friendly, relaxed.
