Overview
Collecting data sources, analysing information, running code. Predominantly independent tasks on excel and python. Also involved writing up instructions in word
Skills
Developed analytical skills, learnt new coding skills
Responsibilities
Yes this was really good. Given plenty of work that is important/high priority. It is essentially the same work and responsibility as a HEO (graduate) role.
Support & Guidance
Reasonable amount, was quite independent but people were very happy to help when needed
Culture
Quite good. Online working seems far better than it is though, becomes quite tedious. Would encourage people to go into the office if allocated to DEC (Darlington) it has a really nice atmosphere. Newport is okay but doesnt have the same atmosphere
Your Impressions
Good overall. Important and challenging work
Yes
If applying through the GES sandwich placement program, take the time to read through job descriptions and make sure to explicitly state your preference. Even after this, you will know your company (e.g. ONS, DEFRA) before the department so also research department and state preference or else you will be randomly allocated anywhere
