Overview
Assisting the wider team on a range of projects. Using Excel, Word, PowerPoint and PowerBI. Providing admin support and reviewing reports.
Skills
Learnt basic PowerBI skills and developed existing Excel skills. Also developed note taking and report writing skills.
Responsibilities
On the majority of projects I was working with someone else and assisting them. I was responsible for some specific tasks including organising meetings / knowledge share sessions. I was also responsible for the graphical content of a report (graphs, tables, diagrams).
Support & Guidance
Weekly meetings with my line manager to discuss what I was working on and any issues. Also supported by colleagues I worked more closely with on projects.
Culture
Generally very welcoming and positive especially compared to other similar consultancy companies.
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed my placement, especially when I was given more freedom on tasks which also allowed me to use new software and learn new skills.
Yes
You don't need to be an engineer to work at Arup! I was worried when I started that most people would have an engineering background and I would feel out of place but this was definitely not the case, especially in the consultancy side of the business.
