Overview
A range of tasks given in the selected department. The assessment required us to complete four or five objectives: 1) conducting due dilligence and contract review and presenting our findings to the supervisor 2) attending a client meeting and taking notes 3) conducting legal research 4) drafting a legal document 5) (if you were in the litigation department: attending a court hearing). Most commonly people got tasks on top of these five objectives and also working on an ad-hoc basis with some support tasks when there was availability.
Skills
Definitely soft skills - how to prioritise and plan my time to meet my objectives and any deadlines, how to communicate your time availabilities effectively, how to work in a team. I have also learned so much about the substance - law. Drafting an application form for submitting evidence in reply, contractual rights and obligations, client cooperation etc.
Business Insight
Really interesting, the firm has a very broad specialisation.
Culture
Excellent, non-hierarchichal, we got 1 on 1 partner engagement from pretty much the onset. The culture felt inclusive and supportive.
