Overview
Shadowing colleagues to experience a day-to-day office environment Being assigned to projects and taking responsibility of independent tasks Attending team calls, meeting and training sessions to get up to date with relevant information Participating in online workshops and intern sessions such as wellbeing sessions Collaborating with fellow interns to produce a solution-based project to solve any persistent problems and issues
Skills
Presentation skills through volunteering to be the main presenter of a team meeting Time management through the clear organisation of tasks and time ensuring deadlines are met Networking skills through reaching out to fellow interns and colleagues to gain insights into different business areas Creative thinking through needing to create innovative solutions to problems
Responsibilities
I was assigned two tasks whereby I was given the responsibility to come up with an action plan to follow and to fulfil the task accurately and efficiently. I did have colleagues who would keep track of what I was doing to ensure I stayed on track
Support & Guidance
I had 1-to-1 meeting with my manager every day. I also had a graduate buddy which was on hand at all times and I could ask them questions/for help when I needed to. There was a dedicated programme leader who also answered any programme specific questions interns had
Culture
Everyone is very welcoming and friendly and always happy to help if anyone has any issues or needs some support with their day-to-day tasks. The company has a 'one bank' thinking meaning that collaboration is very important and teams are working together constantly.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it a lot as everyone was very kind and would always be happy to help no matter how busy they were. The skills I learn are very valuable and I am sure will assist me in my future career. However, some tasks I was assigned onto were not directly related to my business area which restricted my knowledge of that specific stream.
Yes
Be yourself and let your personality shine. You are not expected to know everything about the industry/business area you will be working in so don't let that out you off. Be curious and ask questions and remember no question is a stupid question!
