Overview
My day typically consisted of time spent in the lab investigating faults of Printed Circuit Assemblies and testing them to ensure functionality. Other days, I would be authoring test documents and work instructions regarding the main PCA I was working on.
Skills
Lot of technical skills gained, including use of electronic simulation software, use of PCB design and schematic capture software, and finally soldering SMT components. Non-technical skills gained include a big boost presentation and communication skills as well as self-confidence.
Responsibilities
I was definitely given much more responsibility than what I was expecting before I first joined which was a joy, as I got the chance to learn so much and make mistakes along the way.
Support & Guidance
I received a good amount of support and guidance throughout my internship. I always knew who to go to when I was stuck or needed answers to my queries. However their response times could be improved.
Culture
The culture of the company is definitely filled with a productivity mindset. There is typically this push for success and on-time delivery you feel when working at the company.
Your Impressions
I had a great time during my internship and made loads of lifelong friends along the way which always helps when you're working somewhere new in a town you've never lived in before. I also mostly enjoyed the technical aspect of my role and the degree of responsibility I was afforded.
Yes
Apply even if you don't think you have all the relevant experience. No one expects you to have a starling CV in your second year of university. Just make sure you can show from all other non technical experiences that you have the qualities of a great employee and can match their values.
