Overview
Tasks throughout the week varied. I was given a substantial amount of meaningful work which was very encouraging and motivational. I was able to get involved in many different areas of the audit. I completed both admin roles, the preparation of a fund and special dividends document. I was also invited to take part in team calls and was given the opportunity to speak up and ask questions to people above me. People were always on hand to answer questions and help me out where I to need it.
Skills
I feel like I have both learnt new skills and developed some existing skills. Coming into this internship my knowledge and efficiency on excel was rather basic and I can certainly say that I feel a lot more confident using excel for lots of different things. Before I came in, I was a little unsure about how to construct an appropriate email to people who were maybe above me in the organization and throughout my experience here I have definitely been able to practice that a lot.
Responsibilities
Yes, pretty much every day I was given meaningful work to complete. This came with a of responsibility as files were being reviewed by manager, partners and also the clients. While I was given a lot of responsibility I always had someone to ask for help or to double check my work which was always reassuring and gave me confidence to try new things. I am glad I was givens this opportunity as I believe it will help me in my future career.
Support & Guidance
Throughout my internship, I had many people that made themselves available so I could ask for help at any time. This was incredibly helpful as I felt confident tackling new challenges. Everyone was incredibly approachable, it didn't matter if they were one step above me or 5. Everyone worked behind the same desk set up which I think really enhanced this. While I could ask for help at any time I was able to complete of work independently which was reassuring.
Culture
The company culture was very welcoming and an inclusive place to work. I met so many interesting people from all over the world. While I was working in assurance I was given the opportunity to meet people out with my service line which I really appreciated. The atmosphere around the office was very positive and everyone was approachable at all times. I never once felt uncomfortable or like I didn't fit in. The diversity of the office was very refreshing to see.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly my internship and would be excited to accept any potential working opportunities that came from it. I was given a real taste of what life would be like to work at this firm and I think it looked very appealing. I would definitely recommend this internship to both people in their penultimate year of university but also those who plan on taking a gap year. Doing the internship sets you up for a potential grad job which is reassuring and can take the pressure off a little from job hunting straight after you finish university.
Yes
I feel like the most important piece of advice I could give to anyone applying for an internship would just to be yourself. If you are authentic throughout the recruitment process I believe that really shines through and gives the recruiter an opportunity to see the real you. I also wouldn't worry about the recruitment process, everyone was very welcoming and accommodating to any extra help you may need. Even if you don't get the whole through you get opportunities to meet other people in the same position as you during the assessment centers which is always nice.
