Overview
Assisting with the process of carrying out of an audit which consisted of conducting tie outs for the financial statements, preparing questions and requests for the client and assisting associates where possible.
Skills
Improved Excel skills immensely. Understood what an audit is and how it is conducted. Improved my networking skills at large company events
Responsibilities
EY accepts interns without prerequisite service line specific knowledge, therefore initially there is not much scope for interns to carry out work independently since they don't know enough to do this with any success. However, as the internship increases the level of responsibility increases and there is significantly more independent work by the end of the internship
Support & Guidance
Initially, the engagement I was placed on was very busy so the support I received was limited to the tasks I was carrying out. However, after the first week, when the engagement team was less busy, I was given much more support in understanding the processes of audit and the bigger picture in general.
Culture
Very pleasant. There is a large cohort of interns so there are lots of social opportunities. Furthermore, the general atmosphere within EY is supportive and it is easy to seek help when required
Your Impressions
I enjoyed many aspects of the internship but it has become apparent that perhaps this line of work is not completely aligned to my career ambitions because the work I carried out was, at times, laborious.
Yes
It is a fantastic place to apply to if you're not sure what you want to focus on because it opens many more doors than it closes.
