Overview
My role is intern in the assurance service line, meaning day-to-day I do tasks such as sample testing, walkthroughs and things to progress an audit. This is done closely with a team of colleagues, daily meetings, and either remotely or in the office, with EY providing a work laptop and accompanying electronics.
Skills
I have developed my teamworking and communication skills, and have learnt to be more proactive and have a greater attention to detail. Overall, the biggest thing is the experience of how an audit actually works, the role technology plays in modern accounting, life in a corporate office, interacting professionally with colleagues, and what is expected of someone at a big international firm like EY.
Responsibilities
I was given lots of responsibility, as the work I did, real transactions with real companies and people, contributed directly to the progress of the audit engagements.
Support & Guidance
The support and guidance of my team during the work, and especially my "buddy" and counsellor during the start of the internship were extremely helpful, and helped massively in the process of settling and getting acclimated to the work environment.
Culture
The company culture and general atmosphere was one of relaxed but hard working, with lots of incredible technical office provisions, with private meeting rooms and large monitor set ups adding to the atmosphere of hard work, but with a good emphasis on health and wellbeing.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my internship greatly, I think the experienced gained was invaluable, and I felt very comfortable in my work, interacting with other interns and colleagues and able to do my best work
Yes
I think EY is a company that values the ability to be personable very highly. Anyone applying to EY should keep in mind that how they interact with fellow colleagues and clients is extremely important to EY, that they value the ability to teamwork and work well with others.
