Overview
During my internship I was assigned to two clients, split between the two weeks respectively. On a daily basis I was given a variety of Audit based tasks, as well as administrative work to support the respective teams on their engagements. When I was without allocated work, I was enabled to utilize the array of learning tools supplied by the company to actively learn new things.
Skills
The internship has definitely exposed me to new skills. I have been able to complete hands on work, which has enabled me to get a bassline understanding of accounting. This has been vastly supported by the complimentary learning materials in the form of 'EY Badges'. Staff members have also been open to giving me walkthroughs of practices as and when I raise questions which I would say has been my primary source of learning.
Responsibilities
This varied between engagements but overall I would say yes. Most of the time I felt like I had equal responsibility to graduates, and was tasked with work that would actually contribute to the end product.
Support & Guidance
Again this was varied. The internship team were amazing throughout and I always felt like i had a source of support when needed. The variation stemmed from one engagement being very supportive and attentive to how I was doing and finding work. Where as the other had much less work to allocate, thus making the communication and support far more sparse.
Culture
One of my favorite things about EY is the culture. The company has been welcoming from the start and made me feel valued despite only being here 4 weeks. There is a clear focus on continuous development, and this shows through their willingness to invest in their employees. While it is clear everyone works hard here, the environment is clearly a positive and happy one, and definitely a place I would like to return.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed it. This was my first corporate experience of work and I walk away wanting to return here as a grad. It was a great introduction to what EY life would be like, and has given me a taste for accounting as a career which is what I wanted to get out of the experience. The culture, people, office and nature of work have all been great.
Yes
While the application process is detailed, spending time on preparation will be well worth it. The company is great to work for, supportive and values you as an employee.
