The Role
This Insight Academy took place at Latimer Place for 3 days and met a lot of new people. Every day was really busy but with different tasks and even some fun activities so I had a lot of chance to solidify my skills set, as well as to network with more people in the company.
We were working in groups and everyone has a chance to work in 3 different groups, that means 18 people. They were all very friendly but professional at the same time. We ensured everyone has a chance to speak out their ideas and discuss each of them very carefully. Outside working time, we participated in various games and hung out in the bar in the evening, which helped us know more about each other as an individual
All the tasks were given with a brief contaning a summary and guidance. There was also a supervisor with us that answer questions related to the task and give us feedback after the performance. Every day, there is a schedule set and we were all informed about this by the team in charge so we didn't have any trouble with the time there.
We started everyday at 8am and all the tasks were done at 5pm. After dinner, there would be some networking sessions available at the bar and we usually went back to our room at 11 or midnight. There is also a group project to be done in 2 days and we had some time allocated everyday to work on it, therefore it was quite a rush. However, since the schedule of everday is different, it was really interesting to work each day
Getting to work in a team, we were told not to designate a team leader, therefore everyone had their own part in finishing the tasks. I especially like the designing the advertisement task, since we all got to pitch our own ideas, and had some freedom in our acting but everyone was also responsible for the success of the whole group
To work in an environment like this, I really get a touch of the atmosphere in a professional business company. I also developed a broad skill set, from teamwork and communication to report writing and networking. These are all valuable skills that will help me with getting internships and jobs in the future
The Company
Everyone was enjoying their time to their fullest there. We worked really hard, and had endless fun in the evening. There was a lot of activities to refresh to make sure we would be ready for the next day
It was really well set up and we were given joining instructions very early on. Travelling there was really helpful, since PwC arranged for a taxi to pick us up at the station and a coach to take me back there. They also reimbursed for all the travelling so it was really organised.
We were given all the helps and guidancess they could give to help us develop our ful potential in the various tasks. The venue we were staying at was very high-class with professional service, which helped us relax after a hard-working day
Company Parties/Events
I received an interview for an internship next year in September, so it's a very good start in PwC.
The Culture
We all exchange our details for future networking chances and everyone was really eager to talk to each other.
We don't have to pay anything since PwC pays for everything, including socialising events at night.
It is in Zone 9 of London, and we don't really go out of the venue so it is not really applicable. The events at night arranged by Pwc are awesome though. There was even a formal dinner with senior partners of the company to give us a peek into the life in PwC.
After 5pm, activities were all set up for us, until midnight. Enough said. There was even a photo booth for awesome photos contest.
