Overview
I am an assurance intern and this includes working on the audit teams in the firm to audit the financial statements of clients. Every day is different- I get given different tasks to complete every day ranging from revenue checking to marking up financial statements. I usually go into the office from 9-5 every day.
Skills
I have developed my excel skills as I was not great at using it before but feel like I am gaining competency. The role has also allowed me to develop my social skills and time management.
Responsibilities
It depends- one team I worked on I wasn't given much responsibility. I would be given my tasks through email, would complete the excel document provided and would then send it back. However, the job I am on now I feel like I am given much more responsibility- the jobs make me feel like I am contributing more, I am using canvas a lot more to send client requests, find documents etc.
Support & Guidance
Lots. My buddy has been very helpful as any issues or queries I have had I would message her and she would help me out. Having a counsellor also really helped. Everyone on the teams I have worked on have also provided a lot of support and guidance as if I felt I needed to ask questions on the task I was working on, they would be very helpful.
Culture
The culture and atmosphere is better than I expected. The office feels very relaxed with the hybrid working and the fact you book desks every day and don't sit in a specific seat every day. Everyone is really friendly and helpful too.
Your Impressions
I have thoroughly enjoyed my internship. I wasn't sure what to expect when I was walking into it but everyone has made me feel at ease, I feel a sense of belonging. I also have really enjoyed the work I have been working on.
Yes
I would tell them about how great the opportunity and experience is working for them- one I won't forget. Advice, I would say to be yourself. When recording the video answers for the application it is important to be yourself- that is what they want to see.
