Overview
The two week summer scheme based in the London office. The role involved undertaking work fairly typical of a trainee at a law firm, including research, drafting, etc. This was done alongside a variety of other daily activities including workshops, group projects, presentations, Q&A sessions, etc. Some nights would then involve a social event, such as a meal or drinks.
Skills
A have developed a lot of legal knowledge in a short space of time. My research and legal writing skills have improved drastically. The experience was also a good opportunity to build my networking skills with a wide variety of people.
Business Insight
It was a steep learning curve, but a welcomed opportunity. The insight you get working at the firm in a short space of time is invaluable and far more than you could ever get from other means such as internet research and law webinars. You gain a great insider appreciation for the business and get to interact with a variety of people of varying levels of seniority.
Culture
Very open and approachable. Every person I interacted with was very engaging and happy to invest time into me, either to explain their work, any interesting developments, or just answer any other questions I had.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the scheme. The two weeks involved long hours and were intense, but the the experience gained was invaluable, and the people you get to meet are fantastic, meaning that the whole experience is worthwhile.
Yes
Take the time to apply for the scheme. It is a long but worthwhile process. The experience you will gain will be highly valuable to you.
