Overview
Worked on ongoing engagements as well as business development tasks. Also had the opportunity to participate in a variety of learning tasks formally and on my own initiative.
Skills
Developed my understanding of the world of indirect tax significantly. Through learning tasks was able to improve knowledge of business generally and tax specifically. Improved ability to network and reach out to people to find work.
Responsibilities
Limited responsibility for client tasks (analogous to that granted to first-year analysts). More latitude granted on a case study task that I undertook in concert with another intern - we presented this to a partner.
Support & Guidance
People leader (similar to line manager) was very available and helpful in answering questions. Assigned buddy less useful. Individuals in the team were generally friendly and willing to help if asked. Was required to reach out to people to ask for tasks to be assigned.
Culture
People very willing to help if asked but limited social interactions.
Your Impressions
Work (when available) was interesting and provided opportunity to learn about the business area. Would have strongly preferred a more involved experience with more people in the office and more social activities
Yes
Good if you are a person who is willing to reach out to people and seek out opportunities for work. Less positive experience if you wanted a lot of socialisation and if you were less confident about reaching out to people online.
