Overview
I carry out design, manufacture and testing of various jigs, fixtures and device components. I carry out and complete various service requests from employees across the business, as well as aid my team by carrying out various manufacturing techniques such as CNC machining and 3D printing.
Skills
Yes, I undertook numerous SolidWorks and SolidCAM training courses which enabled me to serious take my skills to the next level in terms of designs. I learnt a lot of project management and time management skills, as well as how to effectively communicate with stakeholders
Responsibilities
yes, I was left on my own the majority of my time once I proved I was more than capable. I was free to make my own decisions regarding designs and methods, but would still check in and update stakeholders and managers so they were aware of any direction changes.
Support & Guidance
Plenty. I never felt uncomfortable or overwhelmed at any point, I always knew of at least one individual I could go to and ask for support and I was always provided with it.
Culture
Incredibly inclusive and friendly. You'll always get your bad apple here or there but often its just that you caught them at the worst possible time. These encounters were incredibly rare and almost always were followed up with apologies. Everyone is friendly and welcoming and wants to know all about you.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement. The hands-on experience was invaluable and everyone in my team was incredibly and supportive. They would help me with any questions I had and were more than willing to give me career, work and personal life advice. I loved my job and if anything the parts I enjoyed the least were the intern based activities
Yes
Put yourself out there and don't be afraid to strike up a conversation with anyone. Everyone is willing to give career advice and lend a helping hand. Network and make friends with everyone, even if they're outside of your team.
