Overview
The first week involved various training which was conducted nationwide. We had sessions focused on learning about the company and its policies, and then moved onto more service line specific training. By the beginning of the second week, we had met a team of people who we would be working with throughout the internship and they had begun setting me tasks I needed to complete. Each morning began with a team meeting where we would discuss the day, and then we would go on to completing the assigned tasks.
Skills
I have been given the chance to learn lots of new skills that are necessary for an auditor. I have also development many of the skills I already have. By working in a team I have expanded on my teamwork and communication skills. I have had to discuss with a team who are much more experienced than me what I have done and what I need to do. I have had to have the confidence to reach out to them and ask for help. I have also expanded my knowledge in excel.
Business Insight
Although the information provided tends to be specific to the service line, I have received lots of information from the EY talent team about what the business is like and how it is run. They have made it very clear what pathways the company offers, and that there is an opportunity to grow and move through the company. It was additionally made clear that the company understands that many people move onto different roles once they have the experience, and that EY can offer support to development to help with this.
Culture
The company definitely presents a culture which is friendly. Everyone I met in the office and the wider company were so nice and kind. There is a really welcoming environment, where everyone is more than happy to help and support you. I did not meet a single person who wasn't willing to help me. The office was really lovely to go into, and the initial intimidation soon wore off as I went through the internship.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight. It was a valuable experience which allowed me to meet new people, develop myself, and become a lot more knowledgeable about the career path. There was lots of opportunities to get involved, and meet people of various experiences. Everyone I met was so helpful and it made the four weeks much more enjoyable. The friendly environment of the office made it easy to get up and go to work in the morning. It was very enjoyable.
Yes
I would advise others to give it a go, to take the leap and apply. They will have a very good experience and learn valuable information about the career and the company. Even if someone was not sure they wanted to pursue a career in EY, I would recommend they give it a go and gain the experience. Someone apply should think of how they can develop and work on themselves and utilise all the opportunities EY presents.
