Overview
Being an auditor at Deloitte involves examining the financial records of client organizations to ensure accuracy, compliance, and proper risk management. On a day-to-day basis, you will be performing testing and having regular meetings with your team, whilst keeping in frequent contact with your clients.
Skills
I have learned a whole host of new skills applicable to the accounting industry. These include, but are not limited to my ability to: use excel confidently & effectively, understand and present data, apply accounting principles and knowledge that I did not possess prior to starting the placement.
Responsibilities
Yes, with the guidance of your team and once you have been provided the appropriate training, you will be in direct contact with clients. Furthermore, as you share a deadline with your team, it is imperative that your areas of work are completed and to a high standard as you approach reporting deadlines.
Support & Guidance
Lots. The rest of your team are always there to provide support and guidance, and, even excluding this, you are given several points of contact outside your team (i.e. Buddy, People Leader).
Culture
The company culture was great - most people are very sociable and there is an admirable focus on the work-life balance.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement. Whilst it was hard work at times, I believe I've learned invaluable industry information and strongly developed my personal skills over the last 12 months.
Yes
Make sure to be yourself and to put yourself out there when going through the interview process. Research and prior knowledge can only get you so far, the firm will be looking at you as a person as much as, if not more than, your qualifications.
